Meet Sophie Meyers, Global Trade Watch’s Amazing Field Intern!
Name:

Sophie Meyers

Position:

Global Trade Watch Field Intern

How long you’ve been at GTW:

Two Months

Where do you currently live (DC, MD, VA? Or neighborhood):

Washington DC

Hometown:

Lexington MA

Favorite part of working at GTW:

My favorite part of working at GTW is being around a group of passionate, intelligent people doing such important work.  It’s amazing to see how hard they work on issues that impact the lives of all Americans, whether the people they are helping realize it or not!

What interests you about trade/why do you work at GTW:

I find trade interesting because of how these agreements have evolved into pieces of legislation that change existing laws that impact our daily lives.  Campaigning against these deals is challenging because they are so complex and often overlooked.  I am also interested in international relations and trade is an integral part of how countries interact.

What is one aspect of the TPP in particular that concerns you most (Access to meds, the environment, job offshoring, etc.)?

Financial Regulations

Why?

I have been so glad to see the new financial regulations put in place in the wake of the recession.  They are so important and necessary so it seems ridiculous to me that anyone would let a trade deal pass that would cause the regulations to be rolled back.

Favorite Stop the TPP meme?

The Harry Potter one about corporate interests in trade deals

And the kicker, pick one word (and only one word) to describe yourself:
